Mary Choy is the author of Healthcare Heroes: The Medical Careers Guide, an award-winning book to help teens find their best career path. A born and bred New Yorker, her fluency in Chinese came from spending every weekend in Chinese school where she realized the value and importance of her heritage at a young age. After getting her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University, she completed her residency and served as a professor at her alma mater. She has held multiple roles in healthcare, including academia, hospital, community, and ad agency.
As a board-certified pharmacist, educator, and writer, she has dedicated her career to promoting cultural awareness and improving health literacy. She leads healthcare professionals to improve racial and ethnic disparities through collaborations with community-based organizations and legislators serving Asian and minority communities. When she is not writing, she serves as the Director of Pharmacy Practice for the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists and is on the medical review board for Verywell Health. Mary met her husband at Chinese school and they have two wonderful kids who share her love of reading and traveling around the world.
