Ginalina was born in the heart of Toronto, the youngest of three, to Taiwan-immigrant parents. Ever since elementary school, she made-up songs and wrote stories to read to classmates. Now she is a two-time Juno-nominated singer-songwriter, family folk musician, and children’s author. She has four albums that have been recognized with four Canadian Folk Music Award nominations and two Western Canadian Music Awards. Her first book, The Mighty River, was shortlisted on the “Best Books of 2020” by Kirkus Reviews.
Common themes in Ginalina’s projects include the wonder of nature and the importance of community. She is also very interested in the subjects of home roots and identity.
Aside from singing, touring, and writing, Ginalina has also enjoyed working as a tree planter, an overseas English teacher, a museum guide, a Professional Engineer, and a homeschooler. She lives in Vancouver with her husband and four children.
