Tina Athaide lives in California, a long way from her childhood homes in Uganda, London, and Canada, but the experiences of those years are present in her books. She writes beautifully crafted middle grade and picture books that have a commitment to diversity and cultural authenticity. Tina’s debut MG novel, ORANGE FOR THE SUNSETS was awarded the Geoffrey Bilson award for historical fiction for young readers by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre. She has written leveled books with Bebop an imprint of Lee and Low and her work has been published in various magazines. Now, at a time when there is so much conflict in the world, she hopes her stories will promote cross-cultural understanding and acceptance.
